Kristy Bishop, a Charleston native textile artist, will be the Summerville Artist Guild guest speaker for the September meeting. See the magic of indigo and other natural dyestuff transform fabric and yarn into beautiful works of art. She incorporates woven and sewn fibers dyed with locally gathered dyestuff including wild fennel, walnut hulls, and marigolds.
Kristy is a 2016-17 recipient of the South Carolina Artist Venture’s Grant from the SC Arts Commission for her relief sculptures. She also won Best in Show at the 2015 Piccolo Spoleto Juried Exhibition.
Kristy teaches multiple textile techniques in partnership with the Charleston Museum, The Gibbes Museum of Art, Engaging Creative Minds, and Enough Pie. Currently, she is creating a body of work for a 2018 exhibition at the Greenville Center for Creative Arts
